Salt Industry's Development Office is a distinguished service organization at the field level of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSIC). Through this office, BSIC has been working in Cox's Bazar and Banshkhali area of Chittagong since 1960 with the aim of achieving self-employment of the people of the coastal region and self-sufficiency salt production in the country. The salt industry is the largest labor intensive cottage industry in the country.About 05 (five)lakh people are involved in this industry from salt production to packing at the mill level and about 25 (five)lakh people are dependent on them. This industry contributes 1200 to 1500 crore BDT. to the national economy every year, which is purchased as finished goods and stands at 3000-3500 crore BDT.
